Girijana Bandhu Scheme Telangana
The state government surveyed podu property and found that tribal people and others owned and were farming about 11.5 lakh acres of forest land. Pattas wouldn't be given to the people who wanted them until village committees, ZPTCs, sarpanches, and tribal leaders in each area gave the government a written promise that forest land wouldn't be taken over again. After getting pattas, anyone who went on forest land without permission would have to pay them back.
Using survey results, the CM told the House that people from the forward caste communities were marrying indigenous women to get podu lands. Surveys showed that only a small number of people owned podu lands up to 20 to 30 acres. Several forests and green areas have disappeared from Telangana because the governments of the undivided AP didn't take decisive action against encroachers. Serious action should be taken against encroachment on forest lands because if it isn't, it will damage the environment and ecological balance.
