Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme aims to improve the health care system. All eligible beneficiaries of the scheme are expected to get healthcare benefits from the scheme. Public health care workers, volunteers, physiotherapists and nurses will bring health services to the doorsteps of the patients under this scheme. Medical checkups and treatment at home will be ensured for the common people of the state. For patients with hypertension and diabetes, medicines will be handed over by the healthcare workers.

Persons who are above the age of 45 years and are suffering from different health ailments can avail of the benefits of the scheme. They need not visit the healthcare centres to get the facilities. The facilities will be provided at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. To be eligible for the scheme, applicants must ensure that they are aged above 45 years and have a permanent residence certificate. People belonging to Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Madurai, Chennai, Tirunelveli, Tiruchi and Salem can get their names registered for the scheme.

Persons above the age of 45 years and are residents of the above mentioned districts will be screened by the health workers. Although the appointment of healthcare workers is already done and the budget has been allocated for the scheme, the application procedure is yet to be decided by the government.
