The government aims to encourage students with disabilities to educate themselves and to be less dependent on others, as they do not prefer to study and do not educate themselves. 

To encourage people with disabilities to study well, make them self-reliant, and give them financial and emotional support the state government of Kerala started the Kerala Disability Scholarship Scheme 2020 where the government will seek information from the people with disability to verify the details and give them scholarships.

How to Apply for Kerala Disability Scholarship Scheme

To apply for Kerala Vidyakiranam Scheme follow the below mentioned steps, 

1. The first is to visit the official website (http://sjd.kerala.gov.in/schemes.php) and download the application form and take a printout of the same. 

2. Attest all the required documents and forward the filled-in application form to the respective institution head and the institution head will forward the application form to the district social justice officer.

3. After verification, the scholarship amount will be transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account

Make sure to submit the duly filled application form along with all the supporting documents to the District Social Justice Office as there will be a verification of filled in application form along with documents, only then the applicant will start receiving scholarship benefits.

Eligibility Criteria for Kerala Disabled Students Scholarship Scheme

To apply for the scheme the applicant must have the eligibility criteria to avail the benefits of the scheme.

The category of the disability includes Blind, Deaf, Orthopedically Handicapped and Mental retardation will be benefited from the scheme.

The disability percentage should be more than 40%

Applicants having a family income of more than Rs.36,000 will not be eligible for the scheme.

The person has to apply every year, and the person has less than 40% mark in the last year can not apply for the scheme next year.

If the applicant is blind, the student needs a reader hence the government will provide the reader allowance to the applicant

Benefits and features of Vidya Kiranam scheme Kerala

1. The Vidya kiranam scheme scholarship will be provided to children of differently-abled parents. 
2. The scholarship will vary from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 based on the category 
3. The scholarship will be provided for 10 months 
4. Students pursuing education from the government-approved institutions can also apply for the scheme. The amount of scholarship will be directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary via a direct bank transfer method
