YSR Jala Kala Scheme
YSR Jala Kala Scheme 2024
The YSR Jala Kala Scheme was launched by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 28 September 2020. It aims to provide free borewells to all ranches in the state to support farmers who heavily rely on natural water resources for irrigation. Due to high drought statistics, using natural groundwater for irrigation is challenging. The free borewells will enable farmers to continue their practices, increasing income through larger crops.
Objectives of the YSR Jala Kala Scheme
During the 3,648-km padayatra, the Chief Minister (CM) interacted with dry fields and indebted farmers who had dug borewells. In response, CM Jagan promised to provide borewells to upland farmers as part of the nine guarantees made by the YSRC before the elections. Eligible farmers can apply online or through town secretariats, and their applications will undergo hydrogeological and geophysical reviews. Once approved, a technical team will assess groundwater levels and authorize the borewell drilling contractor.
Benefits of the YSR Jala Kala Scheme
The YSR Jala Kala Scheme aims to benefit 3 lakh farmers by providing them with a reliable underground water system to prevent drought-related issues.
