Medak Church

The Medak Church takes us to the Gothic because the architectural pattern of the church reflects Gothic styles and designs. The Anglican Medak Cathedral, which is the largest diocese in Asia, is an invaluable legacy. It was built by the Wesleyan British Methodists and is now under the Church of South India - Diocese of Medak.

The Medak church was built of solid white granite and is 173 feet high. The Medak Church was built between 1914 and 1924 by Thomas Edward Harding, who is an architect and is committed to building the cathedral.

The floor of the Medak church was built with the bricks of the famous ceramics sent from England. The design of the tile is complicated in six colours: red, brown, black, yellow, chocolate and gray.

The marble on the floor of the choir and the place behind the sacrament were brought from Italy, so the Italian workers were taken to place the tiles.

The Medak Church is known for its large painted glass windows that tell the story of the Bible in a kaleidoscope of colours, although they are only visible in sunlight. The three glass windows, created by Sir Frank O 'Salisbury of London, were painted in a small studio for almost 40 years. They form "the trilogy of the gospel" in art: the birth of Christ, the crucifixion, and the ascension.

The windows show the scene of the birth of Jesus, the angels, the prophets or Issaja, Mary and the astrologers. The left side of the church has the scene of the crucifixion painted and in the middle, the Ascension of Jesus is painted. The windows are made of solar glass and consist of several stained glass paints, which are carefully embedded in the huge stone windows. The window to the north, which offers a canopy for the altar, is impressive. The windows appear in all their splendour when it is bright and sunny.

The Medak church has inscriptions in English, Hindi, and Telugu in all the stained glass windows. The inscription in Hindi came later when Vijaylakshmi Pandit, the sister of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, visited this church in Medak and said that the vernacular language should also be visible in the stained-glass windows, then the Hindi script was added to the panels. Holy Week, Christmas and New Year are celebrated in the great Medak Church and with great fame.
