Medak district was a part of Nizam's princely State. Medak was originally called Siddapur. Later, it was known as Gulshanabad. Qutub Shahis named it Gulshanabad, which means City of Gardens. Due to its luscious Greenery, they changed the name to Medak after it was called Methuku Seema or Methuku durgam again.

Medak District is bound by Karimnagar District to the East, Nalgonda District to the East, Nizamabad District to the North, Rangareddy District to the South, Warangal District to the East, and Bidar District to the west. It shares a border with Karnataka State to the South. Narsapur Forest, located 35 km from Hyderabad, is spread between Gummadidala and Narsapur. This forest covers 30 km². This has a variety of trees and many lakes and supports wildlife. Lately, this has become a hotspot for Telugu film shootings.


The district is mainly agricultural, with about 78% of the population engaged in agriculture or something related. The major crops in the region are rice, jowar, maize and sugar cane. High-quality teak is also available in Medak because one-tenth of the district is covered in forests, extending to 97,093 hectares.

The Medak fort and Medak church are epitomes of architectural excellence. The church takes us to the Gothic era because the architectural pattern of the church closely reflects Gothic styles and designs. It was built by the British Wesleyan Methodists and is now under the Church of South IndiaDiocese of Medak.
