This is the district from where the only chief minister from Hyderabad state came from. Earlier name of this region was Palamuru. In 1883 AD its name was changed as Mahbubnagar in memory of 6th Nizam Meer Mahaboob Alipasha. Krishna and Tungabhadra are the major rivers that flow through the district.
