The student must be Schedule caste or Schedule tribe to get this benefit. So you must have some proof about your caste.
He/She must be a first-year student without any backlogs or year back i.e. student must be a fresher.
The student must be enrolled in state government colleges.
Students must be a Karnataka native.
Just by having a roof that you are scheduled caste or scheduled tribe and with your college papers that you are a fresher. You can take the benefits of this Laptop Bhagya Scheme. There are not much rules and regulations you have to go through.
Laptop Bhagya Scheme will start soon in 2017. Registrations for laptops will start in 2017. Karnataka government has announced that the quality of laptops will be great. Each laptop will cost around Rs 32000- 35000. So in starting the academic year 2017, free laptops will be distributed to students. But the main problem or demerit of this scheme is you cannot have the laptop forever. After the completion of the course, you will have to return the laptop which you got from Laptop Bhagya Scheme to the government.
The motive of this scheme is to connect the students with the technology, as the poor students somehow manage to pay their fee. They cannot afford a laptop.

What is Laptop Bhagya Scheme?
In 2017 Karnataka government will start a new scheme as we came to know from different sources. This scheme has been named as Laptop Bhagya – Free Laptops for SC/ST students. So recently Karnataka government has launched Laptop Bhagya Scheme in which students will get free laptops worth Rs 32000-35000. Approx 36000 students will get benefit from this scheme. Around Rs, 112 crores will be the budget of this scheme.
